Inn for the Lost
A downloadable game for Windows
"This winter is shaping up to be a harsh one. As an innkeeper, you're used to rising early, but today it felt especially hard to get moving. The chill from outside is nearly seeping through the floorboards, and the frosted morning dew has dimmed the usual bright glow of dawn."
Follow the story of an inn keeper's attempt to save their guests from a twisted darkness in the cold winter night... or were they safer outside?
Inn for the Lost is a visual novel by Distance Over Time Studio. You are the innkeeper of a mountain lodge where magical creatures of all kinds congregate when they need to find...something. You'll meet and make warm drinks for a variety of patrons while trying to unravel the mystery of the unending snow storm that has trapped everyone inside.
CW: Mild language, implied microaggression, depiction of gaslighting and manipulation.

if its ok to ask, are you developing any more/other vns?
i didn't see guiding light in your profile page.
also, when's the patch for this game?
should i play it now, or after the patch?
I would wait until May when we drop the patch. Right now the ganeplay is all there but the narrative is not. https://candlesticklibrary.itch.io/guiding-light
im really liking this! good job for such awsome work on accessibility.! this is the first accessible vn i've seen in unreal engine!
Thanks so much! :D
the reason i asked the romance question was because it was tagged as lgbtq and romance on this site. i usualldon't play romance games, so just wanted to know.
It is under the lgbtqia tag since there are queer characters but it's not under romance! It's definitely more of a creepy/mystery story. :)
Hello.
I get this error when trying to run the game:
The UE-WinterJam Game has crashed and will close

Thank you for letting us know! Ill get this info to the programmers.
Thank you.
I look forward to playing the game if/when the bug is fixed.
I would also like to thank you for making the game accessible for blind players.
Thank you! We'll make sure to let you know when a fix is launched!
Hi Luel--we did some troubleshooting today and it looks like this is typically a graphics card driver related error. I actually get the same one on my old laptop when trying to run the game because my drivers can't be updated anymore (it's a very old laptop). Most folks seem to have luck after just updating their graphics drivers and DirectX to the latest version. If that doesn't work, here's a more in depth article with additional options: https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-dxgi-error-device-hung-error/#:~:text=The%200x887A0006%20error%20message%20explicitly,driver%20for%20your%20PC's%20GPU.
Thank you for looking into this and for the link.
I read the article, but I am afraid there is nothing I can do.
My computer is almost ten years old.
Running the game as an administrator was exactly the first thing I did, before sending a comment here.
My graphics card is Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 and Intel Driver Assistant claims everything is up to date, so I guess that means no updates anymore.
I will not touch the registry unless I know exactly what to edit, which I have no clue about.
I run out of things to try.
I guess I am not going to play the game in the foreseeable future.
I'm sorry that you won't be able to play it but I understand!
also, thanks alot for making this blind-friendly!
Of course! We are an accessibility focused studio and plan for all of our games to be as accessible as possible!
is this a romance-themed visual novel?
Romance is not the main theme, no. There is a small romantic subplot though! ;)
